Group D staff demands quarter

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: All Kurung Kumey District Group D Welfare Association appealed to the concerned authority to provide quarters to all the group D staff in their respective posting. They claimed that the group D staff are facing problem with their meager salary and also demanded for necessary grade pay arrear as per the earlier notification.

 

Vigilance drive

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Kameng and Tawang District Development Society (K&TDDS), an organization formed with the representatives from East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang, has decided to conduct vigilance drive in three districts from the first week of September next.

During its drive, the Society will monitor the implementation of schemes for 2009-11 under various works department in the district. The Society also requested  the administrations, department concerned and  public leaders to cooperate  during its vigilance drive.

 

Condolences

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Parliamentary secretary, law and justice J K Panggeng deeply mourned the death of Dr B B Pandey, retired deputy director of research (Culture), who died at New Delhi recently.

Late Dr Pandey had rendered excellent service in the field of research during his service period and published a good number of research articles and books for which the people of Arunachal Pradesh will always remember him, said Panggeng in a condolence message today.

Panggeng said, even after his retirement, late Pandey continued to render valuable service through his literary and research work.

The parliamentary secretary also expressed deep shock at the demise of Er Salek Aalee, assistant engineer, power (electrical), who died on July 22 last. Being a dedicated officer, Late Er Salek maintained regular power supply at Mariyang and also looked after the welfare of his subordinate staff.

Panggeng prayed to Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed souls.

ABVP unit registers protest against corruption

NEW DELHI, Jul 28: Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Arunachal Pradesh participated in nation-wide protest organized against corruption cases on July 27.

As a part of the programme, the ABVP activists submitted a 13-point memorandum to President Pratibha Patil demanding her interference in brigning back the black money from foreign country, stringent laws for controlling corruption and other corruption related issues.

Meanwhile, state coordinator of Youth Against Corruption (YAC) Gyamar Rai and ABVP state president Kassung Gymar appealed all the NGOs and intellectuals to jointly fight against corruption.

 

Coordinatin meeting

Seppa, Jul 28: A coordination-Cum- review  meeting of District I.E coordinator, Resource Teachers and Volunteers was held at BRC conference hall here today.

Chairing the meeting, K.Rangmo, DDSE, called upon the Resource Teachers and Volunteers to be punctual and committed in discharging their role and responsibilities. He also sought support and co-operation from teachers and volunteers to bring about a change in the education scenario of the district.

Dwelling at length on the role and responsibilities Kacha Tajo, District Coordinator (I.E) said that providing education facilities to all the children with Special need (CWSN) is must and is a legal right                                                                                                                                      

While advising them to discharge their duties properly, he said that there is the principle of no work no pay under Inclusive Education. He further cautioned them not to leave the station without permission from the DDSE.

 

Call to postpone bandh

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The joint core committee in a meeting held at Naharlagun  yesterday appealed to the ARTIAF to postpone its 2nd phase bandh on July 29 in the greater interest of the business committee.  Frequent bandh calls cause immense loss to the state exchequer and also creates inconvenience to the  common people, the committee said. However, the meeting urged upon the state Government to solve the genuine demands of the Forum.  

 

BJYM leader reacts

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: East Kameng District Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president Loku Sono expressed displeasure over the clarification issued by East Kameng DPO  regarding non-furnishing of  papers sought through RTI.  The claim that the information sought was kept ready by the authorities was a facing saving act on the part of authorities to cover up their ‘incapability’ to discharge their duties, Sono maintained.  The BJYM leader claimed that in fact he had lodged complaints with the state information commission only after a gap of one and half month after having failed to gather the information on MLALAD fund schemes – 2010-11 in the district.

 

AAPRTIAO demands action

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: All Arunachal Pradesh RTI Activists Organization (AAPRTIAO) has urged the Itanagar PS, DIGP security cell and home department as a whole to arrest those persons who have allegedly threatened the RTI activists with life within seven days.

It further demanded that the parliamentary secretary, environment and forest be dropped for his alleged involvement in illegal appointments in tourism department during his tenure as parliamentary secretary, tourism.   The organization threatened to call bandh if its demands are not fulfilled.

 

APPDSU demand transfer

ITANAGAR, Jul 28:  A delegation of All Papum Pare District Students’ Union (APPDSU) yesterday called on the finance, tax and excise minister and  submitted a memorandum requesting him to transfer the superintendent, tax and excise, zone –II, Itanagar for his alleged dereliction of duty.  The Union claimed that the business community is facing difficulties due to dereliction of duty by the said officer. It demanded posting of efficient officer in place of present incumbent.

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Kurung Kumey District Chess Association (KKDCA) was formed in a meeting here on July 26 with Tassar Tama Mohan as president and Patey Tayum as general secretary.

Surprise checking

ROING: To take stock of irregularities in the Public Distribution System in Lower Dibang Valley District a board meeting was held here on July 26 under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Garima Gupta and  constituted a 5-member Surprise Checking Committee to carry out surprise inspection in various FPS in the district.

The committee will conduct surprise checking in all FPS at least twice a month to ensure that the card holders are receiving allotted quota of food grains/sugar & S.K oil.

The DF&CSO would also conduct surprise checking along with his staff and ensure timely delivery of PDS items in the District.

Also it is directed that all FPS owners will maintain proper stock registers.

“The FPS owner will make allotted quota available to all card holders and the complaints regarding the food grains, SK oil and sugar getting finished before card holders get their allotted quota, would be dealt stringently by DF&CSO and strict legal action should be taken against them, the DC informed.

 

Apatani Youth Festival

ITANAGAR: The Apatani Youth Festival Committee, Ziro is conducting its maiden Apatani Youth Festival with a two day programme on July 30 & 31 under the guidance of Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner, Nila Mohanan as the Chief Patron.

Massive sanitation drive all over the state

Aalo, Jul 28 : The State Public Health Engineering headed by its Secretary Er. Tomi Ete, Chief Engineer Eastern Zone Er. T. Ketan, SES and other field officers in different parts of the state are personally involved and coming up with a commitment to fulfill national flagship programme of Total Sanitation Campaign in the State.

Presiding over the DWSC meet on sustainable sanitation and management of water quality monitoring in rural habitation here yesterday, the Secretary stressed on community participation and change in mindset among the rural populace to give a meaningful direction to the programme. Urging Panchayat bodies to take up the programme from grassroot, he stressed on formation of village Water and Sanitation Committee at all level so that its members can be trained on water testing and technical knowledge on repair and maintenance of village assets. In his power point presentation, sanitation toilets in different parts of the state were vividly depicted to generate more awareness among the people.

Eastern Zone Chief Engineer PHED, Er. T. Ketan reiterated that absence of trained manpower and resources in village level is posing hurdle for devolution of finance under rural sanitation and maintenance.

Chairing the meet, West Siang Deputy Commissioner Amjad Tak said that govt. module of development should be made aware to the people and he expressed his happiness over the involvement and personal initiative of the highest authorities of department in the campaign. He asked the villager to take personal interest in APL-BPL survey so that errors do not come up.

Zilla Parishad Chairperson Jarsa Gamlin disclosed that West Siang is ahead in such awareness campaigns but better water connectivity is essential to fulfill this mission.

The Director CCDU Er.A.N Singh elaborated on water quality monitoring and strategies prepared to reach out to the people for testing chemical and pathological contents in water.

AAPSU demands enhancement of student stipend

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: An  All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) team led by its president Takam Tatung today met Finance Minister Kalikho Pul in his office and demanded for enhancement of students stipend.

“Though the salaries of all the Govt employees have been increased the students’ stipend  has been remained same all the years,” Tatung said. A memorandum was also submitted  to the Finance Minister in this regard.

While urging the State Government to release the students stipend on monthly basis, Tatung said stipend should also be given to students of those IB school which have been upgraded to middle school under SSA scheme.

While discussing various issues relating to students welfare with the minister, AAPSU called for reopening of all defunct hostels of Govt schools at the earliest.

The union further urged for extension of classrooms in Government Colleges, including DNGC and JNC, Pasighat.

Shortage in classrooms in those colleges due to enrollment of large number of students is hampering the students in their studies, AAPSU said and demanded the State Govt to look into this problem seriously. Besides, AAPSU sought immediate renovation of toilets of all girls and boys hostels of all the Government Colleges.

The AAPSU team also visited the North East Homeopathic Medical College on being received a complaint that the college was running without proper lecturers and lab equipments.

During interaction the students shared their problems in presence of the college management and principal.

Though strength of lecturer are suppose to be around 44, presently only six lecturer are running the college. Besides most of the equipments of college laboratory are found to be on the verge of getting expired.

Expressing concern over such pathetic condition of the lone medical college of state, AAPSU urged  college management to take urgent remedial measures for the benefit of student of the college before August 10.

 

Tuki to attend conference of state ministers on RAY

ITANAGAR, July 28: PWD & UD  Minister Nabam Tuki will be attending the Conference of State Ministers of Housing, Urban Development, Municipal Affairs/Local Self Govt. on  Rajiv Awas Yozana (RAY) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on July 30 .

Rajiv Awas Yojana is a reform-driven scheme on the foundation laid by JNNURM. RAY focuses not only on re-development of existing slums, but also on putting in place a preventive strategy against formation of new slums. Central support under the scheme would cover 50 per cent of the costs of the provision of basic civic and social infrastructure and amenities, and housing (includes rental housing and transit housing) for slum dwellers (this would be 90% in the case of  North Eastern and Special Category States). This will be extended to state/UTs that are willing to assign property rights to the slum.

In addition, RAY also envisages amendments in the Rent Control Acts, review of urban land development and land use policies and the simplification of the processes and procedures of sanctioning buildings and building byelaws concerning development and housing projects as a preventive strategy against formation of future slums.

 

Promote a sense of security: Governor

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Be proud of your uniform, said Arunachal Pradesh Governor General JJ Singh, while interacting with officers and jawans of 31st Indo Tibetan Border Police at Raj Bhavan Complex here today.

The Former Chief of the Indian Army exhorted them to be ready for any sacrifice for peace and security of the country.

“Always be alert against terrorist and anti national elements. While on duty in the border, maintain strict vigil and at the same time promote sense of security amongst the indigenous population,” the Governor said.

He commended the force for their untiring effort towards the welfare of the indigenous population in raising the quality and standard of life in interior border areas.

Reposing his faith in the force, Gen Singh assured to provide best possible facilities for the personnel in term of accommodation to effective and efficient output. He also expressed his gratitude to the personnel for the high standard of security maintained at Raj Bhavan and in capital complex.

As token of appreciation, the Governor presented a colour television for the recreation of the personnel.

Welcoming the Governor to the Company headquarters, ITBP DIG RK Saini highlighted the activities of the force under civic action programme. The DIG also informed that six more new battalions are in the pipeline in next two years to be stationed in North East region.

While admiring the Governor for personally monitoring the huge development programme in the State, Saini said, the process will also help the force for effective maintenance of the border.

5th HMS GB meeting held

DC assures fund for power transformer

PASIGHAT, Jul 28: The 5th Governing Body (GB) meeting of Hospital Management Society (HMS) of  General Hospital, Pasighat was held in the Hospital Conference Hall yesterday.

The DC-cum-Chairman of HMS Onit Panyang while suggesting the hospital authorities to provide better and advanced treatment with latest technology appealed them to shoulder responsibilities as the hospital also cater to the needs of the surrounding districts like West Siang, Upper Siang and Lower Dibang Valley and in addition to East Siang and neighboring Assam. He also stated that the hospital must have an effective governing body legally responsible for up-gradation and betterment of the hospital activities providing quality care and services to the patients.

Panyang, while responding over specific complaints of few attended members, said it could hamper the image of the lone ISO certified hospital of the state.  He informed the house that doctors and assistants are overburdened but necessary corrective measures would be taken immediately. The DC also assured to provide financial assistance under Untied Fund for procurement of Power Transformer to mitigate the power instability on receipt of fund.  Earlier, the JDHS Dr. K. Lego thanked 39-Mebo MLA Ralom Borang and DC Panyang for their contributions and financial assistance in establishing Heamodylysis and C-Arm Xray respectively. Lego informed that a Heamodylysis Unit, C-Arm Xray and Dental Xray machines have been introduced during the current financial year but expressing his dismay informed that such sophisticated equipments could not be operated well due to power fluctuations. He urged the power (electrical) department to provide stabilized power supply to the hospital on top priority.

The Medical Superintendent Dr. Onik Moyong briefed about the detail expenditure statement, work done during the year and also highlights the future plans through power point presentation on the day.

The PMA President Onyok Tamuk stated the hospital has been enhancing man and machineries speedily but more importance and attentions should be given to patients by the doctors in the hospital. In his turn the other member Dr. J Darang replied that doctors are rendering their duties sincerely but work pressures are more unlike other hospitals of the state and people should understand the truths. The EE Power  (Electrical) Er. Okom Siram informed installation of transformer could be materialized after getting fund from the government. Oyin Moyong  (member) advised to wear name plate/tag by the doctor and assistants during duty hours.

Seriously injured victimreferred to AMC Dibrugarh

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: One seriously injured person in Pasighat eviction drive has been referred to Assam Medical College for further treatment.

Yakiam Mibang, wife of T.Tamut was referred to AMC from Pasighat General Hospital with a severe ear drum split and continuous bleeding cases by Physician and TNT specialist of General Hospital Pasighat for further treatment, informed United Siang Progressive Alliance (USPA).

The other two women, namely  Sania Lego, wife of  B.Tayeng and Y. Talom, wife of Tatok  Takuk had been still suffering from internal bleeding and chest swelling due to the impact of the explosion and tear gas that was reportedly lobbed during the eviction drive to disperse the protestors, it said.

“According to the casualty report declared by the physicians of the General Hospital Pasighat, the injuries were caused by explosion,” USPA claimed.

While protesting the eviction drive, the USPA vowed to raise the issue at the highest authority till the justice is delivered.

It also claimed that the green belt area is not a Govt. notified area till today as far as records available and Govt. order is concerned.

Meanwhile, Pasighat Market  Association President Onyok Tamuk and others visited the victims at Pasighat General Hospital and distributed fruits and medicines, it added.

 

NRHM  review meeting held

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: The first quarterly review meeting of the year 2011 on NRHM was held today at Banquet Hall here organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Health Society, Naharlagun.

The various achievements made in various districts under NRHM during the first quarter were presented through power point by their respective representatives.

Based on the presentations, Kaling Tayeng, Secretary (Health & FW) made few observations and corrective measures to be taken such as uploading of HMIS/FMR datas and quarterly report on their web portal, furnishing the faculty output report regularly and on time.

It was pointed out that 15% of untied fund and Rogi Kalyan Samity (RKS) fund of health facilities with lesser load can be diverted or supplemented with heavier load to mitigate financial burden of the patients.

IEC/BCC activities including school health program must be implemented by all the districts without fail, he said informing that Mother Child Tracking System (MCTS) to be started at the earliest.

Accounts Book of all the functioning sub-centres and registration of RKS for CHC / PHC must be submitted since untied fund / RKS  fund will be earmarked as per the list available. He further informed that )Measle Catch Up’ campaign will be started from the September, 2011.

The reports of World Population fortnight observation in districts were also discussed.

The meeting was attended by Dr. K. Nishing, Director of Health Services, N. Mali, Mission Director (NRHM), Dr. G. Tatu, Addl. DHS, DDHS of Directorate Health, DDHS (FW), DMO’s, DRCHO’s, DPM’s, DAM’s and DCM’s of all the districts, Representatives from NGOs like Karuna Trust and FGA and Senior officers and officials of the Mission Directorate. State level exposure visit to KGBVs

PASIGHAT, Jul 28: A three-day long state level exposure visit to the KGBVs of East Siang district was concluded today.

Earlier on Tuesday a meeting was organized at the Siang Guest House by the SSA Coordinator Kalom Ering which was attended by Komoli Mossang, Chairperson, Arunachal Pradesh State Commission of Women (APSCW) and SPO-cum-Gender Coordinator (SSA) PK Lombi both from Itanagar, DDSE Tani Talom, Prog Coordinator (RMSA) T Jamoh, Tajom Tasung VP (ASVS) and Gender Coordinators of different districts and local KGBV functionaries.

During the interaction session,the APSCW Chairman Mossang in her deliberation said education is an important facet in everybody’s life. Altogether 48 KGBVs (Recorded as 72% of the entire NER) in the state are imparting education to the unprivileged girl students making them aware of basic human survival and fundamental rights.

Mossang stressed on strengthening respect for women rights and fundamental freedoms besides imparting quality education. The scheme draws its legitimacy from the thrust in national policy documents as well as international discourse that refers to bridging the gender gap, she added.

Appreciating the DPO Talom and SSA Coordinator Ering for their sincere coordination, the chairperson said they are setting example for other districts and this would go a long way in improving quality of life of the girls to avail basic necessities in life.

The SPO-cum-Gender Coordinator (SSA) P K Lombi stated the objective of KGBV is to ensure quality education to the girls in order to remove gender disparities. Looking at enrolment trends, there remain significant gaps in the enrolment of girls at the elementary level as compared to boys, especially at the upper primary levels.

The DDSE Talom stated the KGBVs are sharing the burdens of the state government and nurturing the girl children for progressive and secured future. The Vice-President ASVS East Siang Tajung Tasung stressed on boundary/security walls and enhancement of salary of teachers.

During past two days, Mossang accompanied by P K Lombi, T Talom, Kalom Ering, Tajung Tasung and local functionaries visited KGBVs of Motum and Kiyit both under Mebo block and Rayang under Ruksin block and expressed extreme happiness over the functioning. DIPRO

 

KVK organizes farmers club meet

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Papum Pare organized ‘Farmers Club Meet’ to address the various issues and problems faced by the farmers at KVK office yesterday.

Chairing the meeting, Dr. H. Tabin, Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary said that financial constraint was one of the main problems faced by farmers in the state for taking up commercial farming. He highlighted about the facilities provided by his Directorate like free vaccination and medicines for livestock. He assured the farmers for providing piglets. However, for availing the facility, beneficiaries must apply to the Farm Manager of Pig Breeding Centre at Karsingsa in advance.

OP. Mounglang, Manager of NABARD, who was the chief guest, explained about the functions of NABARD for development in rural areas through technology transfer, awareness and capacity building. Informing that NABARD is a promoting agency, he advised the farmer to repay their availed loan in time. He suggested the farmers’ club to extend marketing of their produces to neighboring states like Assam and Bengal for financial benefit.

Dr. Taba Heli, Programme Coordinator of KVK Papum Pare explained the responsibilities and activities of farmers clubs’ for their development. He motivated the farmers clubs to work under one umbrella to strengthen their capacity.

Farmers present in the meeting highlighted their various problems like lack of financial supports from the funding agencies like Bank, long and cumbersome procedure and terms and conditions for availing loan from banks and unavailability of quality seeds and seedlings.

Twenty five members from 10 farmers clubs under the banner of KVK Papum -Pare were present in the meeting.

 

System of Rice Intensification training held

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: One day training cum demonstration programme was conducted on System of Rice Intensification (SRI) at Nampong yesterday.

Altogether 50 participants attended the training which was sponsored by DC, Changlang and implemented by DAO, Changlang.

Inaugurating the training ADC Joyrampur M Roy advised the farmers to abstract full benefits from the training and utilizes the knowledge for augmenting Rice production through SRI.

ZPM, KN Tikhak also spoke on the occasion.

In the technical session, SMS Agronomy, KVK Tirap Simanta Kumar Kalita highlighted all the aspects including feasibility of SRI cultivation in the district and all the methodologies of SRI cultivation which was followed by demonstration of SRI by Dr. Narendra Kumar.

ADO, Nampong J Tikhak and ADO, Changlang SN Saikia highlighted on effective microorganism technology especially on EM composter and EM seed treatment.

Later, five progressive farmers were selected to SRI cultivation and seed of Mahsuri rice and some tools and implements related to SRI cultivation was given to the selected farmers and Organic based insecticide and agricultural tools were distributed to all the trainees on the occasion.

 

BJP, Mandal committee demands posting of teachers

ITANAGAR, Jul 28: Bharatiya Janata Party, Mandal committee 34th Tuting-Yingkiong assembly constituency appealed to the Director of School Education to immediately post Junior and Assistant Teacher at various schools of Tuting block.

The committee said that government primary schools, Bissing and Kopu are run by single teacher each which needs immediate attention of the authority concerned.

It also appealed to the state government for road connectivity from Tuting to Singa circle and directed the officers and staff of Tuting Division to stay in their posting place regularly.

ITANAGAR, Jul 28:Gora Makik Sporting Club-A (GMSC-A) and Nirjuli Youth Welfare Association (NYWA) registered big wins against Papa XI and All Capital Complex Youth Welfare Association (ACCYWA) respectively in league level matches of the 2nd State Level Tiger 7 Soccer Tournament   at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun, today.

GMSC-A trounced Papa XI 5-0 while NYWA grounded ACCYWA 6-3.

Gora Makik shot into lead 4 minute into the match through goal from Gichik Taming. The team was leading 4-0 in the first half with goals from Pura Dukang (19, 25 min.), Dari John (24 min).

Rahul Barman added another goal in 53rd minutes to complete the drubbing of the team.

In another match, Nabam Juel scored two goals in 31st and 40th minutes and Rubu Tare (21 min), Birender Rai (43rd min), Tuting Sonam (46 min) and Neelam Akam (56 min) to help Gora Makik ground their opponent Papa XI.

Tamong Padung of ACCYWA scored hattrick (13, 53 & 63 min) in their lost match.

ITBP Kimin will play against Capital Complex Sports Club -B in tomorrow’s first match and TTFC will lock horns with TPYC in the second match.

Meanwhile, the tournament organizing committee secretary Tai Roket appealed to the organizers of tomorrow’s Capital Complex bandh call to exempt the tournament from purview of the bandh.

Efforts on to re-arrest the accused

Dear Editor,

This is regarding news items published in your esteemed daily on July 27 demanding suspension of Kurung Kumey SP for alleged failure of police in re-arresting an accused rapist (Sangram Police Station Case No 12/11 US 376 IPC) who fled away from police custody on March 5 last.

In fact the accused was arrested by the police soon after he committed the crime.  Realizing the urgency of transporting the accused to nearest police station Sangram due to non-existence of police lock up at Palin, police approached Palin civil administration and Sangram PS and SP Koloriang. But before timely assistance, the accused fled away from the police custody on March 5 night by taking advantage of sudden power failure and after snatching torch light of the guard.

Since then the police are making several attempt and also conducted raids for re-arresting the accused who is hiding in the deep jungle and rarely comes out in the village. The Kurung Kumey police are making all out efforts and quite hopeful that the accused will be re-arrested soon. Police also requests one and all to co-operate with us so that accused be re-arrested soon.

It is worth-mentioning here that Kurung Kumey Police is working under very sorry and pathetic condition. There are only two police stations in the district --- Sangram and Nyapin which were established during undivided Subansiri and those police stations are always facing shortage of vehicle and manpower. The police set up in the district are not even equipped with minimum necessities.

Hope, the All Raying Balo Youth Welfare Association will understand, share our problems and cooperate with the police. There was no any in action on the part of the police but it was due to lack of infrastructure facility.

We are deprived

Dear Editor,

We will like to highlight the grievances of all the depressed PG with B.Ed holders of Geography and Commerce subject and draw the attention of the department concerned towards non-vacancies for Geography and Commerce subject for the post of PGT (ST) in previous advertisement (NO.ED.2/DSE/ST/16/11-12, dated 8 July 2011).

It has been observed that, out of 100 number of  PGT (ST) posts which were approved by the state Cabinet on 6th  Aug 2010 for open recruitment, only 86  number of vacancies have been advertised for open recruitment. Not even a single vacancy has been advertised for both Geography and Commerce subject and 14  number of vacancies  are still with the authorities.

Everybody knows that getting PG with B.Ed course is the lone dream for the poor students to become Senior Teacher. Moreover some of the candidates are going to be over aged too.

Therefore, we earnestly request the state Govt, particularly education department to include us in previous advertisement for the post of PGT (ST) against the remaining 14  number of vacancies.

Lastly, we also appeal to apex student body and other NGO concerned to help us to reach  the destination before overage.

They are playing divide and rule policy

Dear Editor,

This is in reference to the letter issued by one Dugmo Tali of so called Jomlo Mobuk Dam Affected Welfare Association on July 20 last. I would like to mention here that we the people are not aware of  such Association. If such Association exists, it is not recognized by the affected area. Moreover, it is a fact that the Jaypee company is mobilizing the dam affected people with their financial power. They are playing divide and rule policy by using our local people and some individuals of the society are dancing to their financial power without caring for future.  

From the letter issued on July 20, it seems that the letter writer does not really belong to main dam affected area and he is not going to lose anything because of Lower Siang Dam project which is opposed by majority of the people. If he really wants to save the properties of dam affected people, he should visit the affected area  and interact with affected people.

World Hepatitis Day

 

The United Nations has marked 28th July as World Hepatitis Day for the first time to bring attention to the disease that affects almost one in every three persons on Earth.

The World Hepatitis Alliance, a non-governmental organization (NGO), has been marking 28 July as a day of awareness of the disease since 2008. The WHO’s governing body voted last year to join the effort with a worldwide programme of posters, radio and television spots and social media information campaigns.

According to WHO, hepatitis A occurs when a person eats or drinks something contaminated by the stool of an infected person, and is associated with inadequate sanitation and poor personal hygiene. An estimated 1.4 million cases of this strain occur annually. Improved sanitation and the hepatitis A vaccine are the most effective ways to combat the disease.

Hepatitis B, which is transmitted through contact with the blood or other body fluids of an infected person, is a viral infection that attacks the liver and can cause both acute and chronic disease. About 2 billion people worldwide have been infected with the virus, about 350 million live with chronic infection, and an estimated 600,000 of them die each year.

Hepatitis C, which can range in severity from a mild illness lasting a few weeks to a serious, life-long chronic condition that can lead to cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer, is transmitted through contact with the blood of an infected person. About 130 million to 170 million people are chronically infected with it and more than 350,000 people die from hepatitis C-related liver diseases each year.

Hepatitis D occurs only in those who are infected with hepatitis B. Hepatitis B vaccines provide protection from hepatitis D infection.

Hepatitis E, like A, is transmitted through consumption of contaminated water or food. Vaccines to prevent this infection have been developed but are not widely available.

The World Health Organisation calls for increased vaccinations, safer blood transfers and the use of sterile equipment in medical facilities to control it.
